The Casino of monaco was opened by the Princess Caroline, a shrewd buisness-type spouse of Prince Florestan. The casino originally opened in 1854, however, it did mot start proffiting until 1859. Between the original opening up to 1859, the casino was moved several times, and in 1863, it was expanded. In the 1870s, profits grew until 1889, when the casino was expanded again. And since then, the casino has undergone several renovations to make it more modern, which was paid for by the House of Grimauldi. Now the casino attracts thousands of prospective aristocrats each month and remains to be very profitable.
